Recently one of our parishioners, Thomas "TA" Frazer, attended the annual Winter Youth Retreat at the New Gracanica Monastery outside of Chicago, IL. Thomas has taught martial arts for many years and volunteered his time and talents to helping our Orthodox Youth at the retreat. Two things to consider for 2014:

1) Getting my children more involved in the life of the Church with regular attendance to the Divine Liturgy and to any type of youth event such as the annual Winter Retreat.

2) How can I best serve in the Church? What are my talents, my experiences; how can I better organize and prioritize my schedule so that I can accomodate weekly attendance at Divine Liturgy? In other words, how can I become a "Good Steward"?

These are things to consider as the New Year has dawned on us (or will dawn us by the Julian Calendar)!

   On December 26, 2013 Ninko peacefully fell asleep in the Lord at Hospice Care of Blue Ash, OH in his 60th year. He will be remembered as the beloved husband of Spomenka, loving father of Josif and father-in-law of Ana, cherished grandfather (deda) of Stefan, loving brother of Ljeposava Tripunović and Nada Glad, as well as a wonderful and dear friend to extended family, kumovi, and friends. 

   Ninko has been a long time supporter of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, OH. 

   Visitation was held at the HODAPP Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati Columbus Rd., West Chester, OH 45069 on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 5-7 PM and there was a Pomen Service at 7:00 PM.

   A funeral service was held at the St. Synaxis of St. Archangel Gabriel Serbian Orthodox Monastery New Marcha, 5095 Broadview Road, Richfield, OH 44286 on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM. +Ninko was buried at the Monastery Cemetary.

The Passing of a Friend

                        +Nikola Shundich passed away on July 12 at 82 years old.  The son of a Serbian Priest, Nick came to Cincinnati from his hometown of Wilmerding, PA. in 1948 to play football for the University of Cincinnati. He was Co-Captain his senior year and was elected to the UC Football Hall of Fame.  During his college years and after, Nick came to our church often and became “an adopted son.”  Our parishioners would invite him  for Sunday dinner and social activities at their homes.  Nick sang and played tambura.  As the leader of his Fraternity Glee Club, he taught them Serbian songs to sing.  A Korean War Veteran, Nick remained in Cincinnati and married his wife, Rosella.  They had four children.  Although in his later years he did not attend church, he supported our church and spoke with Father Petar often.  A very nice man who will be missed.  May His Memory Be Eternal.

+Stanisa Bojic long time tutor   of our St George Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, died in the Lord, on  Monday, March 18, 2013,

Bereaved relatives: Wife Dušica Bojic, daughter protinitza Gordana Petrovic   and son- in law Father Petar Petrovic, daughter Ljiljana Obradovic, son in law Milan Yovanić, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in America, as well as numerous relatives in Serbia.

The funeral service of the late +Staniša will be held on Tuesday evening March 19^th, 6.PM at St. George's Church, 5830 Glenview Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45224.

After the funeral service the remains will be transported and buried in a Chicago Cemetary at the monastery of Gracanica.

For the repose of his soul, instead of flowers, donations can be sent in the name of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, with an indication of:IMO of Stanisa Bojic.

84, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Jefferson Place.

A native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Rose came to the United States April 4, 1966, and joined her sister in Kentucky. She became a citizen in 1973.

She retired as an accountant in Medical Reimbursement for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Rose was a member of St. Michael Orthodox Church, the American Society of Women Accountants and the True Blues.

Survivors include a sister, Slobodanka Nedeljkovic; niece, Bibi Monsky of Louisville and her family; a niece and nephew in Serbia, Ljubica Busetic and Mileta Novovic and their families.

+Ruzica was helping financially our St.George Church in Cincinnati.

Memorial gifts may be directed to her church.

One Year Memorial Service will be held for late +Aleksa Gajic on Sunday March 10th, 2013. Divine Liturgy will start at 10:30 AM. A memorial service will be offered by his wife Gordana Gajic with the Vidovic and Fisic families. After service, a memorial lunch will be served in the church hall. MAY HIS MEMORY BE ETERNAL!!!

Хиљаде људи, старих, жена и деце је евакуисано, смештено по прихватним центрима где је неопходно, по савету Црвеног Крста,обезбедити лежајеве на расклапање, пелене за децу,хигијенски материјал за жене,хигијенски прибор и материјал, као и материјал за дезинфекцију. За сада није потребно прикупљати храну и одећу.

Један од наших парохијана Саша Лазић који ради за ДХЛ, добио је веома повољну цену транспорта 2.46 центи по паонду.

As you already know the bad weather caused the massive flooding recently in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. Situation in many cities is very alarming.

Thousands of people , the elderly , women and children were evacuated , placed at the reception centers , where it is necessary , on the advice of the Red Cross to provide: folding beds , diapers for children , hygiene supplies for women , hygiene supplies and materials , and materials for disinfection .

It is not necessary to collect food and clothes at this time.

One of our parishioners Sasa Lazic , who works for DHL received a very favorable cost of transport $2:46 cents per paond.

URGENT!!!

Dear brothers and sisters,

                As many of you already know, historic rains have caused massive flooding in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a matter of days, thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes. As many of us have learned through family/friends and the media, the most difficult situation is in Obrenovac and surrounding areas.

                In response to an appeal from Serbian Patriarch Irinej and our Eastern American Diocese, St. George Church in Cincinnati lunch a campaign to collect funds to help those in need. On behalf of myself and the St. George Church Board, I invite all parishioners to take part in this important humanitarian action to assist victims of the floods.

Regarding catastrophic natural disasters and floods in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia, and Serbia, we appeal to all in order to immediately begin with the collection of financial aid which is going to be forwarded and distributed by our Eastern American Diocese and the Serbian Orthodox Church to those who are most in need.

Many affected areas are in a national state of emergency. Thousands of people, elderly, women and children are being evacuated and placed into shelters, where beds, clothing, food, water and medication is very much needed. The number of casualties is yet to be counted; however it is not to be underestimated. The damage that has occurred so far is estimated to be in millions of dollars. Entire households are destroyed, agriculture has been obliterated, and industry is severely affected.

Once again we call upon all to show our Christian love by offering monetary contributions to our brothers and sisters who are in great distress. Our unified prayers to God are also essential in these harsh moments for our people.

Contributions can be sent to the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church - with a note stating "Floods" and all collections will be forwarded to affected areas as soon as possible. You can also donate using church PAYPAL at: www.stgeorgecinci.org.Please note :For Flood Victims".

Драга браћо и сестре,

                Као што већ знате временске непогоде проузроковале су огромне поплаве ових дана у Србији и Босни и Херцеговини. На хиљаде људи је приморано да напусте своје домове. Како чујемо од родбине, пријатеља и читамо у медијима, најдраматичније је у Обреновцу и околини.

               Поводом катастрофалних природних непогода и поплава које су задесиле Републику Српску, Босну и Србију, апелујемо да се што пре почне са прикупљањем финансијске помоћи која ће путем Наше епархије и Српске Православне Цркве бити упућена најугроженијим подручјима.

              Ситуација у многим градовима је веома алармантна: хиљаде људи, старих, жена и деце је евакуисано, смештено по прихватним центрима где је неопходно обезбедити лежајеве, одећу, храну, воду и лекове. Број жртава још није утврђен али свакако није мали. Штета која је настала се процењује у милионима долара. Разрушена су комплетна домаћинства, поплављене обрадиве површине и уништена привреда.

            Још једном молимо и позивамо да своју хришћанску љубав покажемо тако што ћемо финансијски помоћи браћи која су у невољи. Молитве Богу су исто тако неопходне, стога је потребно и молитвено јединство у овим тешким тренутцима за цео наш народ.

Свети Архијерејски Синод Српске Православне Цркве сазвао је Свети Архијерејски Сабор у

редовно заседање за 2014. годину.

Поводом обележавања 900-годишњице рођења Светог Симеона Мироточивог, овогодишњи Свети

Архијерејски Сабор Српске Православне Цркве започеће 14. маја светом архијерејском Литургијом у

Саборном храму Успења Пресвете Богородице у манастиру Студеници, с почетком у 8,30 часова, док ће

свечани чин призива Светога  Духа на почетку рада Сабора бити служен у храму Светих апостола Петра и

Павла у Расу код Новог Пазара, у 14 часова. Радни део заседања Светог Архијерејског Сабора започеће

15. маја 2014. године у Патријаршији српској у Београду.

Marking the 900^th anniversary of the nativity of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher, this annual Assembly of Bishops

will begin with the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral church of Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God at the

Studenica Monastery on 14 May 2014 at 8.30 a.m., while the solemn rite of the Invocation of the Holy Spirit at the

beginning of the work of the Assembly will be officiated at the church of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Ras near

Novi Pazar at 2:00 p.m. A working section of the Holy Assembly of Bishops will commence on 15 May 2014 at the

Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade.
