По благодати и дару Светога и Животворнога Духа, чувајући благообразност и свештени поредак (1.Кор 14,40) Цркве Христове, а на основу одлуке Светог Архијерејског Синода Српске Православне Цркве (Бр. 995 и 1009/зап. 638 од 25. септембра 2019. године), и у духу налога Епископског савета (Еп.сав. Бр. 11 од 5. децембра 2019. године), Епископи чланови Епископског савета за Северну, Средњу и Јужну Америку имају част да саопште да усвајају
одлуку Светог Архијерејског Синода која гласи: „Ставити ван снаге све одлуке Црквеног сабора Српске Православне Цркве у Северној и Јужној Америци…. које се тичу устројства српских православних епархија на том подручју“ (Бр. 995 и 1009/зап. 638 од 25. септембра 2019.
године).
Сложивши се са овом одлуком Светог Архијерејског Синода, Епископски савет Српске Православне Цркве у Северној, Средњој и Јужној Америци, саопштава да је нашој Светосавској Цркви јединство важније од свега другог те сазива ванредни Црквени сабор за 29. фебруар 2020. године у Клирвотеру, Флорида, који ће извршити одлуку Светог Архијерејског Синода.
Тако је оно што је зависило од богољубивих епископа учињено, а преостало се односи на вас да пројавите сложну и сагласну љубав према Господу, чиме ће се пројавити и ваша искрена љубав према нашој Светосавској Цркви.

СРПСКЕ ПРАВОСЛАВНЕ ЦРКВЕ У СЕВЕРНОЈ,
ЦЕНТРАЛНОЈ И ЈУЖНОЈ АМЕРИЦИ
У Чикагу, 7. децембра 2019. године

Централни Савет Српске Православне Цркве у Северној, Централној и Јужној Америци, који представља свих пет српских православних епархија на
поменутим територијама, састао се 6. и 7. децембра 2019. године, у Саборном храму Васкресења Христовог у Чикагу. Састанак је отпочео служењем Свете Архијерејске Литургије којом је началствовао Његово Преосвешенство, Епископ буеносајрешки и јужноцентралноамерички Г. Кирило. Тиме је Централни Савет још једном потврдио своје јединство у Христу са пуноћом Српске Православне Цркве.
Савет је размотрио и донео одлуке о многим питањима важним за живот и функционисање наше Свете Цркве.
Савет је такође обавештен од стране архијерејâ Српске Православне Цркве у Северној, Централној и Јужној Америци, да је Свети Архијерејски Синод Српске
Православне Цркве издао акт o обустављању одређених одлука Црквеног Сабора одржаног у јулу месецу 2019. године, које се тичу територијалног ограничења постојећег Устава, као и то да Црквени Сабор, који ће укључути свих пет епархија,буде сазван почетком идуће године. Архијереји су обавестили Централни Савет да ће Епископски Савет СПЦ у Северној, Централној и Јужној Америци, уважити сва упутства Светог Архијерејског Синода. Централни Савет је наведене информације примио к знању и очекује сазивање Сабора од стране Епископског Савета, заказаног за 29. фебруар 2020. године.
Одређујући ставке буџета Централног Савета за следећу годину, Савет је потврдио своју финансијску и моралну подршку раду Богословског факултета Свети
Сава, смештеног у манастиру Нова Грачаница. Архијереји су умољени да именују Старатељски Савет који ће сарађивати са нашим епископима и пружати им
препоруке за побољшање и развој ове теолошке установе.
Спољни Правни савет Цркве, ангажован за правна питања у САД, одржао је презентацију везану за упутства која је ово тело дало 2017. године у вези са
корпоративном структуром епархија и преименовања, понудивши низ могућности и препорука за обезбеђење остваривања критеријума законских прописа. Исто је примљено на разматрање.
Централни Савет је са великом забринутошћу констатовао постојање удружених напада како на епископе наше Цркве у Северној, Централној и Јужној
Америци, тако и на нашу Свету Цркву, изведених путем интернета и разних друштвених мрежа. Поменути напади, који укључују приписивање нечасних мотива
и служење сумњивим правним методама, крајње су неосновани и нетачни. Савет потврђује пуну подршку и поверење у епископе и цео Епископски Савет, и позива наше вернике да одбаце све лажне нападе и оптужбе усмерене против истих.
Молимо се током овог Божићњег поста за Његову Светост Патријарха Српског Г. Иринеја, за сву црквену јерархију, свештенство, монаштво и све вернике
Српске Православне Цркве, да нам Новорођени Спаситељ подари крепост и благодати да наставимо ходити освештаним путем Светог Саве.

COMMUNIQUE OF THE CENTRAL CHURCH COUNCIL
OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN NORTH,
CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA
Chicago, December 7, 2019

The Central Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North, Central and South America, representing all five Serbian Orthodox dioceses on these territories, met at Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Chicago on December 6-7, 2019. Our meeting began with the Holy Liturgy celebrated by His Grace Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America. In doing so we reaffirmed our unity in Christ and with the fulness of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Council deliberated and decided on a number of issues important to the life and functioning of our Holy Church.
The Council was informed by our Bishops that the Holy Hierarchical Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church has directed that certain decisions of the Church Assembly-Sabor held in July, concerning the territorial limitation of the present constitution have been set aside,and that a Church Assembly-Sabor including all five Dioceses be convened early next year . Our Bishops informed the Council that the Episcopal Council will comply with all directives of the Synod. The Central Council received this information and awaits the calling of the Sabor by the Episcopal Council for February 29.
In deciding on the budget of the Central Church for the coming year, the Council reiterated its financial and moral support for the work of the St. Sava School of Theology presently accommodated at New Gracanica Monastery. It asked our Bishops to appoint a Trusteeship Council to work with our Bishops by making recommendations aimed at the improvement and development of the School.
A presentation was made by the Church's external U.S. legal counsel as to the advice they gave in 2017 on corporate structure for the diocese, renaming and offered a number of options and recommendations aimed at ensuring compliance with all legal requirements. These were taken under advisement.
The Central Council noted with great concern the concerted attacks on our Bishops, and through them on our Holy Church, carried on the internet and through social media. These attacks, ascribing dishonorable motives and questionable legal methods to our Bishops,we know factually are false and entirely without merit. The Council reiterates its full support for and confidence in our Bishops and the entire Episcopal Council, and asks our faithful to reject these attacks as the lies that they are.
We pray during this holy Nativity Fast for His Holiness our Patriarch Irinej, for the hierarchy,clergy, monastics and all the faithful of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and for strength and grace from the New-born Savior to continue on the holy path of St. Sava.

АРХИПАСТИРСКА ПОРУКА УЗ БОЖИЋНИ ПОСТ

 О ГРЕХУ ЗЛОУПОТРЕБЕ ИНТЕРНЕТА, ДРУШТВЕНИХ МРЕЖА И МЕДИЈА

 „И дозвавши народ рече им: Слушајте и разумите! Не чини човека нечистим оно што улази у уста; већ оно што излази из уста, то га чини нечистим.“ (Мт. 15,10-11)

НАЈЉУБЉЕНИЈЕ СВЕШТЕНСТВО И МОНАШТВО, СИНОВИ И КЋЕРИ, ВЕРНА ЧАДА ЕПАРХИЈЕ ИСТОЧНОАМЕРИЧКЕ НАШЕ НАЈСВЕТИЈЕ СРПСКЕ ПРАВОСЛАВНЕ ЦРКВЕ,

 У времену смо Божићњег поста, и у светим данима наше припреме за дочек великог и светлог празника Оваплоћења Речи Божје. Рођење Богомладенца Христа, доноси обнову свим народима на земљи и целој творевини: „И Логос постаде тело и настани се међу нама, и видесмо славу Његову, славу као Јединородног од Оца, пун благодати и истине“ (Јн.1,14). Оваплоћени Логос - Реч Божја, кроз Своју Свету Цркву, већ овде и сада, открива будуће Царство Божје као вечну заједницу љубави. И управо се у тој љубави остварује истинско јединство Бога и човека, и човека са његовим ближњим. Оно се свагда и увек открива у јединству, а никада кроз разједињеност или обману. Способност комуникације је дар Божји човечанству. Употреба или злоупотреба овог дара је ствар личног избора, Богом-дане нам слободе, или на спасење или на осуду. И као у случају изговорене речи, исто је и са употребом или злоупотребом било које речи или слике – штампане или електронски саопштене, приватно или јавно, појединачно или путем средстава јавног информисања. Следујући пример Оца нашег Небеског, сваки савестан родитељ одговоран је да, по светој хришћанској дужности, упозори своју вољену децу оног момента када уочи да нечастиви смера да постави своје погубне замке. Тако и Ми ево сада, на почетку светог Божићњег поста, са архипастирском бригом за поверено Нам свештенство и монаштво, и све синове и кћери, духовну децу Нашу, указујемо наново на опасност греха злоупотребе интернета, друштвених мрежа и осталих средстава јавног информисања. Свети апостол Павле, учећи Коринћане, подсећа на речи Господње: „Зато изађите из њихове средине и одвојте се, говори Господ. И не дохватајте се нечистог и ја ћу вас примити, и бићу вам отац, и ви ћете бити моји синови и кћери, говори Господ Сведржитељ“ (2. Кор. 6,17-18). Сваки онај који путем друштвених мрежа или било којих других средстава за јавно информисање, ствара и шири лажи и дезинформације, јавно саблажњава и обмањује верне, инструментализује децу и младе, крив је за грех егоцентризма и самозаљубљености, грех свога ја, јер тиме себе одстрањује од вечне заједнице љубави, од Тела Христовог, од Цркве. Такви и њима слични, чују једино себе и оца лажи, а никада Реч Божју, Која нам је послана од Оца. „Зашто не разумете говор мој“, пита их Господ? „Онај који је од Бога, речи Божје слуша“ (Јн.8, 43,47). Онај пак који не слуша речи Божје, није од Бога. А за такве, слепе код очију, који су и унутар Цркве, Христос нас мудро саветује и упозорава: „Оставите их, слепи су вођи слепима, а слепи слепога ако води, оба ће у јаму пасти“ (Мт.15,13-14). Они који друге наводе у искушење и злонамерно учествују у ширењу лажи и подржавају поделе, постају заједничари, не Тела Христовог, већ завере, и учесници сумануте покварености оца лажи. Зато, стражите помно над срцима вашим, драга и драгоцена Нам децо духовна! Постећи и духом и телом овај свети Божићњи пост, имајте на уму савет Светог апостола Петра, који каже: „Одбаците, дакле, сваку злобу и сваку превару и лицемерје и завист и оговарања“ (1. Петр. 2,1). Злоупотребљавати речи, које по природи својој никада нису неутралне или неодређене, значи грешити против саме Речи Божје. Као и за сваку реч коју изговоримо, тако и за оне које буду написане у новинама или објављене на интернету, тражиће се одговор на Страшном суду Божјем. Стога, чувајмо чистоту срца, ограђујући се од злих ствари и клевета, како би створили места за Њега, који се рађа ради нас људи и нашег ради спасења. Позвани смо у овом светом Божићњем посту и на искрено покајање, стављањем себе пред суд савести и преиспитивањем тајни срца наших. Шта је то што нас погани, што нас чини нечистим и доноси нам осуду? „Јер од сувишка срца уста говоре. Добар човек из добре ризнице износи добро; а зао човек из зле ризнице износи зло. А ја вам кажем, да ће за сваку празну реч коју рекну људи дати одговор у дан Суда. Јер ћеш због својих речи бити оправдан и због својих речи бити осуђен“ (Мт.12,34-37). „Не судите, да вам се не суди; јер каквим судом судите, онаквим ће вам се судити; и каквом мером мерите, онаквом ће вам се мерити“ (Мт.7,1-2). Зато, апелујемо на Вас, драга децо духовна, „не узвраћајте никоме зло за зло, настојте добро чинити према свима. Ако је могуће, колико до вас стоји, имајте мир са свима људима. Чинећи тако, увек и на сваком месту, бићете, и треба да будете, од помоћи својој светој Цркви и своме народу. Одмакните се од таме и уђите у чисту Светлост Христову, „која обасјава сваког човека који долази на свет“ (Јн.1,9). AN ARCHPASTORAL ADVENT MESSAGE ON THE SIN OF INTERNET,

 SOCIAL MEDIA AND MEDIA ABUSE

 “Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, Listen and understand! What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean.” (Mat. 15:10-11)

MOST BELOVED CLERGY AND MONASTICS, SONS AND DAUGHTERS, FAITHFUL CHILDREN OF THE EASTERN AMERICAN DIOCESE OF OUR MOST HOLY SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH,

We find ourselves in the Season of Advent, and in the holy days of preparation for the arrival of the great and radiant Feast of the Incarnation of the Word of God. The birth of the Christ Child brings with it the renewal of all peoples on earth and all creation: “For the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the Only-begotten, Who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn. 1:14). The Incarnate Logos – the Word of God, through His Holy Church, already here and now, reveals the future Kingdom of God as the eternal community of love. And precisely in that love realizes the union of God and man, and man with his neighbors. The same is always and everywhere revealed in unity, and never in deception or fragmentation. The ability to communicate is, indeed, a gift from God to humanity. The use or abuse of this gift is a matter of personal choice, that of our God-given freedom, either unto salvation or condemnation. And as it is with the spoken word, so it is with the use or abuse of any word or image – consigned to print or electronically communicated, privately or publicly, individually or through mass media. Following the example of our Father in Heaven, every conscientious parent is responsible, by their sacred Christian duty, to warn their cherished children that moment when they see that the evil one has laid a ruinous snare for them. In like manner, now at the beginning of this holy Nativity Lent, in Our Archpastoral concern for Our entrusted clergy and monastics, and all sons and daughters, Our spiritual children, once again We admonish on the danger of abuse of the Internet, social media and other means of public information. The Holy Apostle Paul, edifying the Corinthians, reminds us of the words of Christ: “Therefore come out from them and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (2. Cor. 6:17-18). All those who choose social media or any other means of public communication, to create or disseminate lies and disinformation, publicly scandalize and deceive the faithful, lead astray children and youth, are guilty of the sin of self-centeredness and love of self, the sin of their ego, for they estrange themselves from the eternal community of love, from the Body of Christ, from the Church. They and those similar to them, only hear themselves and the father of lies, and never the Word of God, Who was sent to us from the Father. “Why do you not understand what I say”, asks Lord of them? “He who is of God hears the words of God” (Jn. 8:43,47). They who do not hear the word of God, are not of God. And for such, blind individuals, who are also in the Church, Christ wisely counsels and warns us: “Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit” (Mat. 15:13-14). Therefore, be watchful over your hearts, Our dear and treasured spiritual children! As we fast during this Holy Advent Season, both in spirit and in flesh, heed the admonition of the Holy Apostle Peter, who said: “Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander of every kind” (1. Pt. 2:1). Abusing words – that are never neutral by their nature, nor indifferent, is a sin against the very Word of God. As with every word that we utter, so also for those that we conscribe to print, or publish in cyberspace, we will be held accountable before God at the Awesome Day of Judgment. We must, therefore, guard the purity of our hearts, by shielding ourselves from evil things and slander, in order to make room only for Him, Who was born for us humans and for our salvation. We are summoned during this holy Nativity Lent, also to sincere repentance, by placing ourselves before the judgment of our conscience and examination of the secrets of our hearts. And what is it that makes us unclean and brings condemnation upon us? “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings forth good things out of the good stored in him and the evil man brings evil things stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word that they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned” (Mat. 12:34-37). “Do not judge, or you too will be judged; for in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Mat. 7:1-2). Therefore, We appeal to all of you, Our dear spiritual children, “do not repay evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord... Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:17- 21). By fasting, and in repentance before God, through prayers and petitions for those close to you and for those that hate you, you will preserve the purity of your Holy Orthodox faith and the beauty of your Orthodox Christian dignity and identity. In so doing, always and everywhere, you will, and must be, of assistance to your Holy Church and to your people. Walk away from darkness and enter into the pure Light of Christ, “The true light that enlightens every man that comes into the world” (Jn. 1:9). And in receiving Him, Emmanuel, Who is God With Us, He will receive us and we will truly become and endure as children of His Father, Our Father, the Father of Lights, children of the God Most High.

Dear  parishioners and friends,

We extend our sincere gratitude to all those who participated and supported St. George Church in 2019.

As Christmas approaches, we ask that you remember St. George Church in your holiday plans. While preparing for joyous holiday celebrations with your friend and family, it’s important to stop and reflect on the joy and blessings in your own life while also being aware that not everyone is so fortunate. While shopping for gifts and gatherings with loved ones, please consider setting aside part of your budget to support the work of St. George Church with a tax-deductible charitable donations. In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals for support.

We ask that you make a commitment to support our annual appeal by making a donations.   Your generosity will have a positive impact on St. George Parish community. Every gift matters. We have enclosed a donor envelope for your convenience.

 Due to small contributions and large expenditures, the Church was in a deficit of $ 10,880 this Year. We can eliminate these deficits jointly if you increase your voluntary contributions this Year for Christmas, before the end of December. Our next project will be the installation of a Heating and Cooling System in the Church and Parish Home, since it is an old system and does not work well and the gas costs are high. Our priest Fr. Petar voluntary decreased His monthly salary for $1,200.00 each Month, in order to help the Church.

Драги парохијани и пријатељи,

Искрено захваљујемо свим онима који су учествовали и подржали цркву Светог Ђорђа у 2019. години.

Како се Божић приближава, молимо вас  да се сетите  Цркве Светог Ђорђа у  овим празничним данима. Приликом припреме за радосну прославу празника са својим пријатељима и породицом, важно је зауставити и размишљати о радостима  и благословима у вашем животу,   такође   свесни тога да нису сви тако срећни. Zbog malih priloga, a velikih izdataka,  ove godine je Crkva bila u deficitу 10,880 dolara. Sledeћi projekat ћe nam biti ugradњa Sistema za grejawe и hlaђeњe u Crkvi и parohijskom domu, poшto je stari system pri kraju, a troшkovi za gas su veliki.

“Christ is Born! Glorify Him!”

On January 6, 2019 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, people gathered to celebrate Badnje Veče (Christmas Eve) in traditional fashion. Our faithful came from all over the tri-state area to be a part of this most special evening, keeping the Serbian tradition alive by passing it on to their children.

Over 100 were in attendance for the evening’s events, beginning with the Nativity Vespers service. The Protoprebyter-Stavrophor  

 Father Petar Petrović led the vesperal prayers, assisted by the Church Choir led by long-time director Nancy Helbich. At the conclusion of the service, Father Petar read the message from Bishop  IRINEJ in both Serbian and English and the message was well-received by all.

Following the Vespers service, the Yule Log was brought in the Church by Parish Council President Milan Obradović and the path of straw laid by 2^nd Vice President Dragan Miljković. The tradition of placing a path of straw for the entrance of the Yule Log is symbolic of our Savior’s entrance into this World – the God Child (Yule Log) born of a young virgin mother in a stable and placed in a manger (straw) to rest. The humblest of births is remembered by this ancient tradition of the Serbian people. The faithful came forward at the end of announcements to venerate the icons and the Holy Cross and received a blessing from Father Petar. Wall calendars were also distributed from KSS President Dr. Jasmina Jović. Mira Stratton, First Church Board Vice-President, distributed  to all children Christmas Magazine Book. Christmas gifts sponsored by Birgir Mishurda and Family were distributed to all children .

Before heading to the Fellowship Hall for a fasting dinner, everyone gathered around a small fire as the Yule Log was set ablaze.

Thanks to our brothers and sisters who decorated the hall, prepared a nice “fast-friendly” meal, and for the traditional Shumadijski Chaj (hot tea). Everyone enjoyed the meal and also the special visit by St. Nicholas, who distributed gifts to the children. Glory to God that our Lord was sent to us over 2000 years ago and may the New Year bring blessings to you and your family! May we remember to be good stewards to our Church in 2019 and to be the “light of the world” to those outside of our faith through our words and our deeds. HRISTOS SE RODI! Христос се роди!

A visual-literary exhibit "Тамо далеко: 1918-2018"/"Over There, So Far Away: 1918-2018" celebrating the centennial of the victory of Serbia in WWI will be on display throughout the Eastern American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Created by Mr. Marinko Lugonja and Mr. Marko Kentera, this exhibit is presented by the Department of Christian Education of the Serbian Eastern American Diocese in cooperation with nonprofit organization Art Exchange from Washington, D.C.

THE SUNDAY OF THE ORTHODOXY

WAS CELEBRATED IN CINCINNATI, OHIO

FEBRUARY 25, 2018

On Sunday, February 25, 2018, the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. George in Cincinnati, Ohio, ceremoniously celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy. The Holy Liturgy began at 10:30am. According to the instructions of His Grace Bishop of Eastern America Irinej, the priest Very Reverend Stavrophor Petar Petrovic, immediately after Ambon's prayer, sang the Troparion of the Icon of Christ, making a one-time procession within the church. After completing a one-time procession, the children with icons in their hands stood in front of the Ambon facing the people, and then the Synodicon of Orthodoxy and the Creed were read. After the reading of the Synodicon and the Symbol of Faith, the Holy Liturgy was completed.

After the Holy Liturgy, Djuka and Ilija Milisic, with the family served for all present cakes and coffee in the church hall.

On the same day, at 6:00 PM , Father Petar Petrovic and several of our parishioners attended the celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy in the American Orthodox Church of Christ the Savior in Norwood, Ohio. All Orthodox priests of Cincinnati and the surrounding area took part in the Great Eve Service. Afterwards, Priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, Fr. Daniel Marshall, presented lecture on the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the significance of the Icons in Orthodox Churches.

Most people seemed to stay and a very lively and friendly fellowship followed. All together a wonderful "climax" of the first week of Lent and a good beginning for the second week that we now begin.

ФЕБРУАР 25, 2018

У Недељу Фебруара 25, 2018.године Српска Православна Црква светога Ђорђа у Синсинатију, Охајо, свечано је прославила Недељу Православља. Света Литургија је почела у 10.часова и 30 минута. По инструкцијама Његовог П реосвештенства Епископа Источно Америчког Господина Иринеја, свештеник протојереј ставрофор Петар Петровић, одмах после Заамвоне молитве је запевао тропар Икони Христовој чинећи једнократну литију унутар храма. После завршене једнократне литије, деца са иконама у рукама   су стала испред амвона окренута лицем народу, а потом је прочитан Синодик Православља и Символ Вере.Након читања Синодика и Символа Вере завршена је света Литургија.

После завршене свете Литургије Ђука и Илија Милишић са породицом су послужили све присутне са колачима и кафом у црквеној сали.

Истога дана, у 6.часова увече прота Петар и неколико наших парохијана су присуствовали прослави Недеље Православља у Америчкој Православној Цркви Христа Спаситеља у Норвуду, Охајо. На Великопосној Вечерњој служби су учествовали сви православни свештеници Синсинатија и околине.После Вечерње свештеник руске Православне Цркве прота Данијел Маршал, је одржао поучну проповед о Недељи Православља и значају Икона у Православним Црквама. На великопосној Вечерњој Служби је певао Хор Цркве Христа Спаситеља, укључујући и неке госте.

Већина народа је остала на посној вечери коју је припремило њихово Коло Сестара.

St. Sava the Archbishop of Serbia 

was celebrated in Cincinnati, Ohio

Modestly and proudly, St. Sava was celebrated by a traditional gathering at St. George's Serbian orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Serbian Orthodox Parish of St. George celebrated the St.sava on January 28 along with its parishioners , praying to the holy Sava for the salvation and preservation of the Serbian people and everyone present.

According to the already established tradition, the Liturgy was served by the Very Reverend Stavrophor Petar Petrovic and began at 10:30.am with the assistance of our children in the Oltar. After worship, the Slava’s Bread (Kolach) was blessed. The sponsors(Kumovi) of the celebration were Veljko and Gordana with the children Darija, Maja and Aleksandar Uverić, who prepared a very rich and tasty lunch for all present. The family of Mirko and Djuka Šebez with their children agreed to be sponsors of the celebration for the Year of 2019. After the blessing of the Slava’s Bread, program which was prepared by the children of our parish continued atn the church hall,. Coordinator of the program was Dr.Slobodan and Ajlin Stanišić.

At the beginning of the program, Sofija Stanicić spoke about the significance of St. Sava. The children addressed the people with suitable recitations and songs in memory of this wonderful and great saint. During the celebration, we greeted all present children with gifts.

Скромно и поносно, Савиндан је обележен традиционалним окупљањем у у цркви светога Ђорђа у Синсинатију, Охајо .

Српска православна парохија светога Ђорђа је обележила свечано Савиндан Јануара 28 заједно са својим верницима ,молећи се светоме Сави за спас и очување српског рода и свих присутних. 

По већ установљеној традицији, света Литургија коју је служио протојереј ставрофор Петар Петровић , је почела у 10.часова и 30 минута уз асистенцију помоћника у Олтару. Након богослужења је пререзан славски Колач. Спонзори славе су били Вељко и Гордана са децом Дарија, Маја и Александар Уверић, који су припремили веома богат и укусан ручак за све присутне вернике. Породица Мирко и Ђука Шебез су се прихватила да буду спонзори светосавске прославе за 2019.годину.После благосиљања славског колача одржана је светосавска прослава у црквеној сали коју су припремила деца наше парохије. Координатор програма је био Др.Слободан и Ајлин Станишић.  Софија Станишић је на почетку програма говорила о значају светога Саве. Деца су се обратила народу са пригодним рецитацијама и песмама у спомен овом дивном и великом светитељу. За време прославе , сву присутну децу смо обрадовали поклонима.

Наши парохијани Зора и Спасо Дроца су изненада и неочекивано изгубили најмлађег сина Иванка у Аустралији који се је упокојио пре 40 дана.

Родитељи Зора, Спасо и брат раде Дроца са фамилијом, ће у недељу априла 2, давати 40 дневни помен у нашој цркви.Света Литургија почиње као и увек у 10.часова и 30 минута.

LENTEN VESPER SERVICE AND LECTURE

AT ST.GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CINCINNATI, OH

On Sunday, March 19, Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio hosted a Lenten vesper service and dinner. The vesper service began at 6PM, and was attended by many faithful members of the church, in addition to local clergy from Orthodox churches in Cincinnati and Fr. Isak Kisin, parish priest at Saint Stevan of Dechani Serbian Orthodox Church in Columbus. Fr. Isak served in the altar, while parish priest Fr. Petar Petrovic, along with Protinitza Gordana and local clergy sang responses with the choir. After the vesper service, Fr. Petar graciously thanked Fr. Isak and invited everyone in attendance downstairs in the church hall for fellowship and a Lenten meal prepared by the kolo sisters. After the dinner, Fr. Isak gave an important lecture on the Holy Cross. He reminded everyone about the significance and relevance of the cross for Christians. He made note of the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, specifically mentioning the tree in the garden as a symbol of human weakness. Fr. Isak then talked about how in ancient times the cross was a figure associated with the punishment and execution of the worst criminals. Fr. Isak eloquently explained how Jesus accepted His crucifixion to save sinners, and consequently the cross was transformed into a symbol of forgiveness, hope, and life after death in paradise. Fr. Isak explained the relationship between the Tree in Eden and the wooden cross Jesus was crucified on; both made of wood, one alive and one dead, but through His great suffering, Jesus became the “new Adam”, and specifically Fr. Isak referenced, “O death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is thy victory?”, explaining how through his death Jesus conquered sin and made salvation possible. It was a sincere and thought provoking lecture.

Our guest at Vesper Service was Father Steven Kostoff, Priest of Christ the Savior/Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, Norwood, OH. Fr. Steven is a professor at Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH (Teaches: The Eastern Orthodox Church; Christian Mysticism; New Testament, Church History, Dogmatic Theology, Liturgical Theology. At the end of Fr.Isak Lecture He was graded by Fr.Steven with A(10).

This was a great evening of prayer and contemplation for everyone who attended.

TWO ALTARS IN MY LIFE

On Meatfare Sunday my father, together with my mother, celebrated over four decades of priestly service to the church. I was asked to say a few words, and the first thing which came to mind were my first memories as a child. My fathers altar at church, and my mothers altar at home. Those memories are so real that I think of it daily, which is why this was the first thought which came to mind when I was asked to speak. There were so many things I could've shared watching my parents all these years, but their service to God and His people becomes obvious in the urge and want of their children and even grandchildren to need to serve.

Another very profound delight was spending the weekend with the Bishop of the Eastern American Diocese; a Serbian man from Ohio who without a doubt is a proud Serb and feels this country as his own and loves the Church which he grew up in and now serves as a Archpastor. From the moment we welcomed him at the airport, we headed directly to church to prepare everything necessary for the following day; then to an elegant dinner and delightful fellowship in downtown Cincinnati; to the Divine Liturgy served in a chapel-like church which his presence and first of all the presence of Christ made obvious in him made it as a heavenly Cathedral; to the lunch and fellowship in the  social hall of Saint George Church where everyone saw him as the first among equals and even more amazing than that where it became obvious that every person who was there speaking or not speaking the bishop respected them giving all his attention to each of them.  The comments of the faithful were very pleasant to hear. 

During the Divine Liturgy he tonsured two readers, Adam Meador and Veljko Uverici, and elevated the priest of this parish to the dignity of a cross bearer – the highest award given to a priest in the Serbian Church.

Prota Petar Petrovic said he "will wear it proudly, but not with pride". At last the bishop responded to these words and again offered a short sermon in the fellowship hall explaining what exactly Prota meant as the Serbian word понос (pride) is derived from the Greek word πόνος (pain), i.e. "bearing pain with dignity". In addition, His Grace Irinej awarded the St George Church School Congregation with a Grammaton.

I also must mention just one part of his most eloquent and pastoral sermon where he briefly touched upon each of the Sundays leading to the beginning of Great Lent and in a way concentrating on making it obvious to all how much God loves us and how much we should love each other. He said "Sin is the ability to destroy love".  For me, this was the best definition of sin I have ever heard.

I briefly shared my impressions with the bishop and how enlightened I was having spent the weekend with him. It was obvious that he was equally as delighted to share this weekend with us.  

 His visit ended, when on the way to the airport, he learned of and insisted of stopping by to visit a much ailing parishioner of St. George Church, Mr. Gregory Miladinov. 

And last, but not least I must say that my father for several years now really prayed for this award. I didn't know why, because truly he is not as proud as I am, until he was given this great honor and had a chance to speak. It then became obvious that one of the main reasons he wanted this was so that he can have a chance to bring to light the works of his beloved wife for 44 years and our mother Protinica Gordana.

ST.SAVA CELEBRATION IN CINCINNATI, OH

On Sunday January 29, 2017, parishioners at Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati Ohio celebrated one of most joyous slavas for Serbs throughout the world, Saint Sava Day. Divine Liturgy began at 10:30 am, and Fr. Petar Petrovic had his faithful helpers in the altar: Veljko Uverici, Marko Petrovic, Jovan Petrovic and Alex Stanisic, who also read the Epistle. Marko Petrovic led the church congregation reading the Creed. Also during Divine Liturgy, Sofia Stanisic read a detailed dialogue about the life of Saint Sava, his historical significance amongst Serbs, and the lasting contributions and legacy of this important saint. Fr. Petar welcomed all the children in front of the altar where he blessed the kolach. Kumovi for 2017 were Predrag and Danijela Peric with their children. After the kolach was blessed and cut, Fr. Petar obliged and asked the crowd, “Who will be kumovi for next year’s Saint Sava celebration?” and Veljko and Gordana Uverici with their children graciously volunteered, almost immediately.

After Divine Liturgy, the entire church crowd met downstairs in the church hall for a delicious lunch prepared by Kumovi, Predrag and Danijela Peric and their children. As is custom on this celebratory day, the children all recited poems in English and Serbian, mostly about the life and legacy of holy Saint Sava. The children’s program was coordinated by Dr. Slobodan and Eileen Stanisic, who also provided fun gifts for all the children. This was such and festive day for everyone who attended. Fr. Petar encouraged all parents to continue to educate their children about the significance of this day and to accept responsibility to live according to the teachings of Saint Sava.

У недељу 29. јануара 2017., парохијани Српске Православнеу Цркве Светога Ђорђа у   Синсинати Охајо прославили су једну од најрадоснијих слава за Србе широм света, Светога Саву. Света Литургија је почела у 10:30 часова а прота Петар Петровић је имао своје верне помагаче у олтару: Вељко Уверићи, Марко Петровић, Јован Петровић и Алекс Станишића, који је читао апостол. У наставку свете Литургије Марко Петровић је прочитао Символ Вере.Такође, током Свете Литургије, Софија Станишић прочитала детаљан реферат о животу Светог Саве, његовом историјском значају за Србе, и трајном доприносу и наслеђу овог важног свеца. Прота Петар је поздравио сву децу у Цркви где је такође благосиљао и пререзао славски Колач. Кумови за 2017.годину су били Предраг и Данијела Перић са својом децом. После благосиљања и резања славског колача, Прота Петар је пристне упитао, "Ко ће се прихватити кумства за Светосавску Прославу следеће године?" Вељко и Гордана Уверићи са својом децом су се одмах великодушно и добровољно, прихватили кумства.

После Свете Литургије, сви присутни су се преселили у црквену салу где су кумови Предраг и Данијела Перић и њихова деца припремили укусан ручак. Као што је обичај на овом свечаном дану, сва деца су рецитовала своје песме на енглеском и српском језику, углавном о животу и наслеђу светог Светог Саве. Дечијим програмом је координирао др. Слободан и Ајлин Станишић, који су такође припремили лепе поклоне за сву децу. Био је то тако диван и свечан дан за све који су присуствовали. Отац Петар је позвао све родитеље да наставе да образују своју децу о значају овог дана и да прихвате одговорност да живе у складу са учењима Светог Саве.

Peace of God! Christ is Born!

This greeting hides a great secret, the mystery of the incarnation of Christ and the mystery of the reconciliation with God's people. At this time we are all called upon not only to reconcile with God but also with each other. Today with all of the discord and strife (in the world) among our people caused by political views, economic differences, and injustice of all kinds, it is imperative that we resolve to make peace.

Reconciliation begins with forgiveness, apology, and is crowned with joy and mutual love. Dear brothers and sisters, take advantage of this holy time during the Christmas holidays to make up with your neighbor and welcome the joy of Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of Christ.

As good stewards, please show your love for our church and beautify it. One way in which to do this for big holidays such as Christmas is with flowers. However, no flower can replace the beauty of you and your family in our church. Look around on Christmas Eve when our church is filled with people, how wonderful it is. Is there anything better than to praise God in a full church! I invite you and urge you to attend not only for Christmas and Easter, but to come weekly when possible.

Our church congregation is solely supported by donations from the faithful and especially during this holy season. That is why we ask you to remember your Church and be generous in heart and spirit with your special Christmas gift.

Ми улепшавамо храм нарочито пред велике празнике као што је Божић и не жалимо труда ни цвећа да нам црква изгледа што лепше. Међутим, никакво цвеће не може заменити вас и ваше фамилије као најлепши украс наше цркве. Погледајте около на Бадње вече када је наша црква испуњена народом, како је то дивно. Има ли шта лепше него славити Бога у пуној цркви! Позивам вас и апелујем да не чекамо само Божић и Васкрс па да хрлимо нашој светој цркви већ да то чинимо сваке недеље ако је то могуће.

Божић је време када делимо благодати добијене милошћу Божијом. Зато се и ове године наша Света Црква обраћа својим верним и оданим члановима да је материјално што више и богатије обдаре. Наша црквена општина и свети храм се искључиво издржавају од помоћи наших верника, а нарочито у ове божићне дане, када се сећамо своје Цркве. Зато молимо све наше верне и одане да не забораве своју Цркву у ово празнично време и да је дарежљиво обдаре својим богатим даровима.

УСПЕО ЈЕ ПИКНИК И СЛАВА КОЛА СРПСКИХ СЕСТАРА

Септембра 25 наша црквена Општина је организовала Пикник и прославу Кола Српских Сестара.

Као што смо и очекивали народ се је одазвао и тиме показао да подржава рад и постојање наше Цркве овде у Синсинатију.

Одмах после свете Литургије обављено је благосиљање и освећење славског колача, а одмах после тога је у порти наше Цркве почело дружење, уз прасеће, јагњеће печење, ћевапе и посластице.

Деца су радосно скакутала по изнајмљеној кући коју ће те видети на приложеним сликама, а остали су играли стони тенис, фудбал и и фузбол тенис. За то време све присутне је забављао Оркестар из Индианаполиса.

Подршку нашој цркви су пружили парохијани из српске цркве светог Николе из Индианаполиса.

Да би се покрили и умањили трошкови Пикника и Славе , наши парохијани су приложили, прасе, јагње, ћевапе, колаче и пиће.

Овај гест је пример другима како треба помагати своју Цркву.

Заједно можемо и више.

For over one thousand years, Orthodox Christians have observed the Sunday of Orthodoxy. The first Sunday of Great Lent is commonly known among Orthodox Christians as The SUNDAY OF ORTHODOXY. This important day has been established by Orthodox Christians to honor the memory of the multitude of martyrs, saints, clergymen, men and women; both princes and princesses and commoners alike, who sacrificed their lives for what Orthodox faithful refer to as “The Church of our Fathers”. This very important day is especially important because of the commemoration of the Restoration of the Holy Icons, which previous to 843 AD icons had been removed from churches by government edict. Byzantine emperors, having been influenced by heretical concepts, did not allot the public use and veneration of icons. The Orthodox Church teaches us that icons are the windows of Heaven from where Saints look down upon us to protect us and to intercede with Christ for our salvation. This day is especially important for Orthodox Christians, to commemorate this event, recognize the importance of icons, and to reflect on the upcoming spiritual journey of Lent.

On Sunday March 20, 2016, the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati Ohio was packed with faithful parishioners from various Orthodox churches throughout the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Very Reverend Petar Petrovic was the host priest at St George, and he eagerly welcomed concelebrants Fr. Steven Kostoff, (parish priest of Christ the Saviour-Holy Spirit Orthodox Church (OCA), Fr. Bill Cassis (parish priest of Holy Trinity-St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church), Fr. William Redmon (St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church), Fr. Daniel Marhsall (St. George Russian Orthodox Church), Fr. Paul Akmolin, (St George Russian Orthodox Church, and Deacon Aleksander Petrovsky (St George Russian Orthodox Church). The St. George Russian Orthodox Church Choir was present to sing during the Vespers, under the direction of Choir Director Dr. Kurt Sander. The choir was fantastic and Fr. Petrovic specifically mentioned at the conclusion of Vespers that the choir filled the church with such a great sense of prayer and that he felt he was in heaven. Fr. Steven Kostoff, also a professor of theology at Xavier University gave a nice sermon on the importance of Lent, and the necessity for Orthodox Christians to unite in this time of worldly uncertainty. Aleksander Jovic, parishioner at St. George Serbian Church who works professionally in the film and media industry was on hand to capture this monumental event with photographs and video. Service books were prepared and provided by Fr. Petar Petrovic.

After Vesper service, Protonica Gordana Petrovic, along with the KSS sisters from St. George Serbian parish prepared a delicious Lenten dinner for all people who attended. The church hall was completely packed as the evening came to a conclusion. The dinner was much appreciated and well received. This was a very important evening, and Fr. Kostoff specifically thanks Fr. Petar and the St George congregation for hosting this evening.

Наша црквена општина и свети храм се искључиво издржавају од помоћи наших верника, а нарочито у ове божићне дане, када се сваки Србин и Српкиња сећа своје Цркве. Зато молимо све наше верне и одане да не забораве своју Цркву у ово празнично време и да је дарежљиво обдаре својим богатим даровима.
Не заборавите да у своје домове унесете бадњаке, који символизују улазак Христа у наше душе. Зато, нека се свака душа поклони Богомладенцу Христу и Њему нека се покори.
У име тога Јединога Спаситеља рода човечијега Црква нас позива све на покајањење лично исправљање, измирење и свеопште радовање. Вера у Њега никога до сада није постидела, нада у Њега
никога до сада није изневерила, нити је ичија Љубав према Њему остала до сада ненаграђена животом, радошћу, миром и вечним спасењем.
Достојно се припремите за дочек овог великог празника постом, молитвом и добрим делима.

The joyous holidays of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ are again upon us. We extend our sincere gratitude to all those who participated and supported us in our church endeavors and work glorifying God and serving His people.

Nativity (Christmas) is a time of sharing gifts of God. Our St. George Serbian Orthodox Church turns to all of its devout faithful for contribution to help us continue God's work and remain on His righteous path keeping His Commandments.

Our church congregation is solely supported by donations from the faithful and especially during this holy season. That is why we ask you to remember your Church and be generous in heart and spirit with your special Christmas gift..

May the Merciful Lord fill you with the Holy Spirit that you might, with Peace in your soul spread peace and unity among men; with love in your hearts that you might show love towards your neighbors; that you might bring others to Him by your example of their Christian life.

Today January 10th, +Jovo Sajlović parishioner of our parish suddenly died. Jovo was born in Serbian Republic (Bosnia) in 1956. Grieving Family wife Zora, sons Alexander and Vuk. We appeal to all people of good will, for monetary help to pay funeral expenses for +Jovo Sajlovic to be buried according to the traditions of our Christian faith. Church School 2014 – Off to a Great Start!

            Christ is in our midst!

            On Sunday, September 7, 2014 many children gathered for the beginning of church school at St. George Church. This year we expanded our efforts and reached out to as many interested volunteers as possible to assist with the instruction of church school. From Father’s initial request for volunteers, we had many parishioners respond – willing to devote their time and their talents to the betterment of the church and a strong investment in the children of the parish. Dr. Slobodan and Eileen Stanišić, who have for years volunteered their time to instruct our youth during church school, were joined this year by new teachers/volunteers:

Father Petar began serving the Divine Liturgy at 10:30 AM, assisted in the Altar by Marko Petrović, Thomas Frazer, Veljko Uverici, and Adam Meador. Joshua Savage greeted all and distributed the Sunday Bulletin as they entered the Church for worship. The choir was bolstered by the presence of some of our out-of-town parishioners, commuting from over one hour away to sing. The choir sang wonderfully, led by Choir Director Nancy Helbich. Adam read the Epistle reading and gave a nice speech on the importance of bringing children to church and the importance of church school. Father ended services with a sermon on the day’s Gospel reading and then proceeded to gather all children in attendance to pray and receive a blessing for the beginning of the new school year.

Following the prayers for the upcoming school year, everyone met in the fellowship hall for light refreshments provided by Diana Shyam and her family. For the children in attendance, pizza was provided by the church and as promised, Father Petar and Protonica Gordana brought ice cream.

How beautiful it was to see so many smiling faces in the fellowship hall to attend church school. We had over 20 children in attendance and we are grateful to the parents that heeded the call to bring their children to church school for an investment in their salvation. To all that could not make it, we invite you to contact our teachers and find out the next time church school will be meeting and come to Divine Liturgy every Sunday at 10:30 AM. To all that came, please continue to come! Our children will be blessed by learning about our Church and its history, not to mention making new friends in the process. There is absolutely nothing else more important than bringing your children to church, for church school and Divine Liturgy. We implore all to consider this request, to understand what is really at stake, and we await you all on Sunday with love in our hearts that we may come together as the Church, to worship God the Creator of all – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! May God bless you and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

As their name might suggest, the work of the Circle of Serbian Sisters flows much like the unending shape of a circle. Whether in the old Country, the United States, or anywhere else in the world, the Chapters of the women's association work tirelessly in service to their parish communities.

Our local Circle of Serbian Sisters organized 101 Years ago, is one o the pillars of our church community Their tireless fund -raising efforts have helped preserve our beautiful church and grounds. Their shining examples of volunteering   and devotion to the church help preserve our traditions and encourages us all to do what we can to be better Serbian Orthodox Christians.

Наше локално Коло Српских Сестара, организовао је скоро више од 101 годину , и једно је од стубова наше црквене заједнице. Њихово неуморно прикупљање средстава и напори су помогли да очувамо нашу лепу цркву и њене основе. Њихови блистави примери добровољног рада и оданост цркви помажу у очувању наше традиције и подстичу нас да урадимо што можемо да будемо бољи Православни хришћани. Зато вас, молим да се потрудите и дођете у цркве на ову Прославу њихове и наше "Крсне Славе".

 Pascha 2014 – St. George Serbian Orthodox Church

 What a joyous time of the year, as we emerge from the depths of the dark and cold and are rejuvenated with the coming of spring; the blossoming flowers, budding trees, warm weather, the whole earth comes alive again from a state of dormancy. After months of harsh winter weather, the past few weeks have brought about the change in the seasons, which is fitting as our Lenten period progressed up to Holy Week and finally culminated in Pascha. It seems only fitting that the whole creation would proclaim the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

 Across the world, the Lenten period is a very busy time for Orthodox Christians, especially during Holy Week. Services were held at St. George on Great Thursday, Great Friday, and Great Saturday leading up to the Paschal Celebration on Sunday. The entire Lenten period was a time for self-reflection, a time to simplify our lives by focusing on fasting and prayer, and to contemplate what our Savior went through during the last week before His Crucifixion.

 On Sunday, the faithful of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church filled the nave of the Church to capacity, with members overflowing the narthex and out into the front of the Church to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ! Father Petar, assisted in the altar by acolytes Thompson Brothers, Thomas Frazer, Veljko Uverici, and Adam Meador, celebrated the Paschal Divine Liturgy with many communicants coming to receive the Body and Blood in the form of the Eucharist. Leagsaidh Frazer read the apostle reading, while the choir, led by long-time parishioner Nancy Helbich, sang beautifully as some of our out-of-town parishioners came to sing and celebrate with us. The Heavens truly rejoiced to see so many of our families with children coming to take part in this most special day!

 Following the Paschal Service, our children took part in an egg hunt in front of the parish. There were so many smiling faces to be seen on such a sunny, beautiful day – and not just from the children, but the parents and grandparents as well! Thank you to the volunteers who helped hide the eggs and watch over the little ones – may God bless you!

 Afterwards, the faithful of St. George gathered into the fellowship hall for a splendid lunch prepared by Mirko, Djuka, and the Šebez family. After many weeks of fasting, the Šebez family demonstrated wonderfully on how breaking the fast is to be done – with delicious sarme, pig roast, and all the trimmings and dessert one could want! Thank you very much for your stewardship in taking on this huge endeavor and may God bless the Sebez family! Also, thank you to Joe and Rada Carfora and children Arianna and Nicole for taking up the stewardship role of being the sponsor for next year’s Paschal Celebration! May God bless you all as well!

 Pascha 2014 was a huge success, as it always is. We recorded great attendance and donations, but more importantly, we were able to come together in good health to worship and celebrate Christ trampling down death by death! Let us remember those who could not attend due to poor health and may God bless them! A special thanks to the ladies of KSS who came to clean and prepare the fellowship hall and the sanctuary. Also, thank you to Protinica Gordana and Saša Krsmanović for their labor in painting and cleaning the refreshment area - it looks wonderful!

 May we not forget what Christ did for us, with His Death and Resurrection, as we now move on from Pascha into the days leading up to the Ascension and Pentecost. Let us remember that we celebrate the Resurrection each and every Sunday in the form of the Divine Liturgy and the Holy Eucharist and that we should make an effort to attend services more frequently. Let us set the standard for our children and loved ones, that above all things in our lives – our jobs, status, education, sports, hobbies, etc. – that we are Orthodox Christians and this is what defines us. This is what sets us apart from the rest of the world! As a convert to Orthodoxy, I discovered later in my life the beauty of Orthodoxy, but my dear Serbian brothers and sisters, God has granted the Serbs this beauty long ago! Do not let it be diminished by the secular things of this country and this world! Do not let your children casually experience this beauty, but let us guide them in embracing this and carry the light of Orthodoxy to all those whom we encounter in our daily lives! May God bless us all and give us the strength and patience to do these things!

 ВАСКРС У СИНСИНАТИЈУ, ОХАЈО 2014

            Какво радостно доба године, излазећи из дубине таме и хладноће и подмлађени са доласком пролећа;цветањем цвећа, пупољцима дрвећа, топлим временом, цела земља оживљава поново из стања мировања. После више месеци оштрог зимског времена, последњих неколико недеља су довели до промене годишњих доба, како је наш Посни период напредовао до Страсне седмице и на крају кулминирало у Васкрс. Изгледа да цела творевина прокламује Васкрсење нашег Господа и Спаситеља Исуса Христа!

            Широм света, Посни период јепосебно време за православне хришћане, нарочито током Страсне седмице. Богослужења су одржана у цркви Светог Ђорђа на Велики Четвртак, Велики Петак и Велику Суботу водећи нас доВаскршње прославе у недељу.Цео Великопосни период јевреме за саморефлексију, време да поједноставимо своје животе, фокусирајући се посту и молитви, и размишљајући шта је наш Спаситељ прошао током последње недеље пре његовог распећа.

            У недељу, верни народ Српске православне цркве Св. Ђорђа,са својом децом,   је испуниоцркву , припрату и порту да прославе Васкрсење Христово! Оцу Петру,су помагали у олтару Браћа Томпсон, Томас Фрејзер, Вељко Уверић, и Адам Меадор, на Васкршњој Литургији са много причасника који су прилазили да приме Тело и Крв у виду Евхаристије. Лесли Фрејзер је за време свете литургије читала апостол, док је хор, предвођен дугогодишњом парохијанком Ненси Хелбић, певаоизванредноса неким парохијанима из других градова који су дошли да певају и славе са нама. Небеса су се истински радовала, да виде толико наших породица са децом,који су дошли да учествују у овом узвишеном и посебном дану!

            Након Пасхалне светелитургије, наша деца су учествовала у традиционалном ловуна васкршња јајау црквеној порти, испред парохијске цркве. Како је било лепо видети толико насмејаних лица на таквом сунчаном, и дивном дану - не само деце, већ и родитеља и бака и дедека! Хвала свим добровољцима који су помогли сакрити васкршња јаја у порти цркве иприпазе нашу дечицу, нашу будућност. -Нека би вас Бог благословио!

            Након тога, верни народ цркве Светога Ђорђа се је окупио у црквеној сали на дружење и сјајан ручак који су припремили наши вредни парохијани Мирко и супруга Ђука Шебез,са родитељима Ђорђем и Јелом. После много недеља поста, породица Шебез је показала како како се нешто брзо и изванредно може учинити за добро своје цркве - са укусном сармом, печењем, и осталим специјалитетима и колачима које сте могли самопожелети! Хвала вам пуно на старатељству и на овом великом подухвату.Нека Бог благослови Шебез породицу! Такође, хвала Ђозефу и Рада Карфора као и деци Ариани и Никол који су се прихватили улоге старатељства и спонзорства за наредну 2015 годину на дан Васкршње Прославе! Нека такође Бог све благослови и подари вам свако добро!

            Васкрс 2014 је био огроман успех, каои увек. Приметили смо велику посећеност и добровољне прилоге, али још важније, то што смо били у стању да заједно дођемо у добром здрављуда прославимо Христово Васкрсење,који онима у гробовима живот дарова! Сетимо се оних који нису могли да присуствују Васкрсу због лошег здравља и да и њиих Бог благослови! А посебна захваљујемо сестрама КСС које су дошле да очистите и припреме цркву и салу за овај велики празник. Такође, хвала Протиници Гордани и Саши Крсмановић за њихов рад начишћењу и реновирању мале црквене сале која сада изгледа дивно!

            Нека не заборавимо оно што је Христос учинио за нас , његовом смрћу и васкрсењем , пошто се сада од Васкрса приближавамо данима који воде до Вазнесења и Педесетнице . Сетимо се да славимо Васкрсење сваки недеље у облику Свете Литургије и Свете Евхаристије и да треба да се потруде да чешће присуствујемо светим богослужењима . Поставимотемеље за нашу децу и оно које волимо , штонам много значи у нашим животима - Наш посао , статус , образовање, спорт, хоби , итд - да смо православни хришћани и то је оно што нас дефинише . То је оно што нас издваја од остатка света ! Као обраћеника у Православље , ја сам веома касно открио у мом животу лепоту Православља , али моја драга српска браћо и сестре , Бог је доделио Србима ову лепоту одавно ! Не дозволите да лепоту Православља умањите секуларним стварима у овој земљи и овом свету ! Не дозволите да вам деца лежерно доживе ову лепоту , већ их учимо прихватању светлости Православља, не само њима већ свима онима са којима се сусрећемо у свакодневном животу ! Нека нас све Бог благослови и даде нам снагу и стрпљење да уради ове ствари ! ВАИСТИНУ ВАСКРСЕ ! Воистину ВОСКРЕСЕ !

St. Sava Celebration 2014

            As I was gathering my thoughts and reflections over today’s events of the celebration of Saint Sava, the Serbian prince, Orthodox monk, and first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church, I stopped to ask myself, “How can it be that such a small Orthodox parish here in America can be so successful, alive, and growing?”. I decided to inquire with our spiritual father of the parish, Father Petar Petrović to see his thoughts and feelings on the subject. When put with the question, Father paused for a moment, in order to thoughtfully ponder the matter, then responded, “Wherever God is, there is also success. This success is given by God when His children work together to do His will.” When asked for an example, Father Petar anticipating my question, quickly responded, “First of all, everybody should be involved with the happenings of the parish life and work together. For example, there has to be constant communication between the priest, the parish council, Sunday School teachers, KSS, and all parishioners. There has to be planning, hard work, commitment, and responsibility for things to be successful. God will shower His children with blessings when they give their all for Him, but the most important thing required for success is Christian love. Without that special love, there will be no success.”

            On January 26, 2014 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio celebrated the beloved forefather of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Saint Sava. What a glorious day to see so many faithful with their children to celebrate the Divine Liturgy! On this extra special day, as every Sunday is special as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we also celebrated Saint Sava. Father Petar was assisted in the altar by Thomas Frazer, Veljko Uverici, Marko Petrović, and Adam Meador, who served as acolytes.

The choir sang beautifully as always, led by long-time parishioner Nancy Helbich. At the end of the service, Nancy was awarded by Father Petar and parish council president Čedomir Đoković a certificate of appreciation for the many years of attendance, support, stewardship, and love given in service to the parish of St. George. In addition to the certificate, Nancy was given a beautiful icon of Jesus Christ.

On a day to commemorate a Saint who has such a strong connection with children as the patron Saint of Serbian schools and schoolchildren, it was fitting that all children in attendance under the age of eight came forward and received Holy Communion. Sponsors for this year’s celebration were Saša and Evelina Lažić with their children Nina and Aleksander. The Kumovi joined Father Petar and all children in attendance to bless the Kolač. After the blessing, Father asked who would be willing to be Kumovi for next year’s St. Sava celebration. After some kind-hearted debate between potential Kumovi, Zdravko and Aleksandra Vidović were chosen along with their daughters Nataša and Sonja.

Afterwards, everyone headed down to the fellowship hall for a delicious lunch provided by the Lazić family. Evelina and Protinica Gordana, along with other members of KSS, helped arrange the food for all the parishioners. What a wonderful example of loving hands offering their service as good stewards! After everyone finished lunch, Dr. Slobodan and Eileen Stanišić conducted the Saint Sava program. After a welcoming speech from Aleksander Lažić, on behalf of him and his family, and a brief introduction from Dr. Slobodan, the program commenced. Dr. Slobodan and Eileen called for the different age groups of youth to come and recite the poems or songs that they had practiced at home with their parents. The fellowship hall was full of smiling faces, delighting in the efforts of the children and their parents to prepare for this special day. Each child received a gift from Eileen and Dr. Slobodan, as well as small icons of Saint Sava from the Kumovi, and were congratulated on their recitations from all in attendance.

The success of this year’s celebration was a product of planning, hard work, commitment, and responsibility by all who made this day special, especially the children and parents. Christian love was ever-present on this day, visible through the laughter of children playing, smiles of parents as they watched their children during the recitations, during fellowship with friends and good food, and above all Christian love was visible as the Eucharist during Divine Liturgy. We pray that all of the children who attended, those who participated in the program and those who watched, will have a wonderful memory of St. George’s Saint Sava Slava Celebration 2014! We pray that God may bless each and every child, their parents, the Vidović and Lazić families, all who offered assistance in any way, and all parishioners of Saint George during this upcoming year! I think Father Petar’s wise words resonate in the hearts of the faithful of St. George and hearken back to the teachings of that humble prince of Serbia, Saint Sava. May God bless!

СВЕТОСАВСКА ПРОСЛАВА, СИНСИНАТИ 2014

Док сам прикупљаo своје мисли и размишљања o данашњим догађајима на дан прославе Светога Саве, српског кнеза, православног монаха, и првог архиепископа аутокефалне Српске цркве, почео сам да се питам : "Како је могуће да тако мала православна парохија овде у Америци може бити толико успешна, жива, и напредна ? " Одлучио сам да упитам   нашег духовног оца парохије проту Петра Петровића да ми да своје мишљење и осећања на ту тему. Када сам му поставио питање, отац је застао за тренутак , како би пажљиво размислио, и онда је одговорио : " Где год је Бог , ту је успех . Овај успех је дат од Бога Његовој деци која раде заједно чинећи његову вољу . " Када је упитан за пример, отац Петар очекујући моје питање , брзо је одговорио , " Пре свега , сви треба да буду укључени у дешавања из парохијског живота и рада заједно . На пример, мора да постоји стална комуникација између свештеника, парохијског црквеног Одбора , наставника недељне школе, КСС, хора , и свих парохијана. Ту мора да се планира, напорно ради. Требамо бити посвећени цркви и одговорни да бисмо били успешни . Бог ће наградити Своју децу са благословом када дају све за њега, али нај важнија ствар потребна за успех је хришћанска љубав . Без те посебне љубави, неће бити успеха. "

Дана 26. јануара 2014,   Свети Ђорђе Српска православна црква у Синсинатију, Охајо прославила је вољеног предка Српске православне цркве, Светога Саву. Како је било дивно видети толико верног народа са својом децом да присуствују Светој Литургији! На овај специјални   дан, као што је и свака недеља специјална јер славимо васкрсење нашег Господа и Спаситеља Исуса Христа, ми смо такође славили Светога Саву. Оцу Петру су помагали у олтару Томас Фрејзер, Вељко Уверићи, Марко Петровић, и Адам Меадор. Црквени Хор на челу са Ненси Хелбић певао је дивно као и увек,. На крају свете литургије, Ненси је награђена од стране оца Петра и председника парохијског одбора Чедомира Ђоковића Захвалницом за дугогодишњи рад, подршку, и љубав дату парохији Светога Ђорђа. Поред Захвалнице, Ненси је добила на поклон дивну икону Господа Исуса Христа.

На дан обележавања свеца који има тако снажну везу са децом, као светац заштитник српских школа и школске деце, сва деца млађа од осам година су примила Свету Тајну Причешћа. Спонзори   овогодишње прославе били су Саша и Евелина Лазић са својом децом Нином и Александром. Кумовима су се придружили оцу Петру и свој деци   приликом благосиљања колача. После резања колача, отац Петар је упитао присутне ко би био вољан да се прими кумства за следећу годину прославе Светога Саве. После краће дебате између потенцијалног кумова, Здравко и Александра Видовић су изабрани заједно са својим ћеркама Наташом и Сањом.

Након тога , сви су кренули ка црквеној сали на укусан ручак који је припремила Лазић породица, Евелина и Протиница Гордана , заједно са осталим чланицама КСС , које су учествовале да се организује и припреми храна за све парохијане . Какав диван пример љубављи и правог старатељства о својој цркви! После завршетка ручка, Др Слободан Станишић и Ајлин су водили Светосавски програм .. Након поздравног говора Александра Лазића , у име њега и његове породице , као и кратак увод   др. Слободана ,програма је почео. Др Слободан и Ајлин позвали су децу различитих година старости да дођу и рецитују песмице или певају песме које су вежбали код куће са својим родитељима.Црквена салаје била пуна насмејаних лица , радујући се напорима деце и њихових родитеља да се припреме за овај посебан дан. . Свако дете је добило поклон од Ајлин и др Слободана , као и мале иконе Светога Саве од кумова , а присутан народ их је наградио аплаузом на припремљеним рецитацијама..

Успех овогодишње прославе био је производ планирања , напорног рада , посвећености и одговорности свих који су учинили овај дан посебним, посебно деце и родитеља . Хришћанска љубав је увек присутна на овај дан , видљива кроз осмехе деце која се играју , осмехе родитеља док су гледали своју децу током рецитација, током дружења са пријатељима уз добру храну , а изнад свега хришћанска љубав је била видљива као Евхаристија током Божанствене Литургије. .   Молимо се да сва деца која су похађала , она која су учествовала у програму и она која су посматрала ,   имају дивну успомену на Светог Ђорђа,и Светосавску Прославу 2014 ! Молимо се да Бог   благослови свако дете , њихове родитеље , као и Видовић и Лазић породице , све оне који су дали било какву помоћ на било који начин , и све парохијане Светога Ђорђа током ове наредне године ! Christmas Eve 

Celebrated in Cincinnati, Ohio

   On Saturday, January 6, 2014, the parishioners and friends of St. George Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, gathered around their church to traditionally celebrate Christmas Eve and prepare for Christ's Nativity, although many churches canceled their services due to the extremely cold and bad weather.

   Vesper Service was served by Very Reverend Fr. Petar Petrovic at 6:30 pm., which officially announced the arrival of Christmas. During the evening service the priest was assisted in the altar by Adam Meador, Veljko Uverić, Thomas Fraser, Marko Petrovic and brothers Michael and Matthew Thompson.

   In a crowded Church you could notice Serbs, Romanians, Bulgarians, Russians and members of other nationalities. Father Petar prepared brochures about the schedule of services to all present in their native languages: in English, Serbian, Romanian and Bulgarian, and at the end of the evening service Father Petar briefly welcomed all those present in several languages ​​which caused their great joy.

   After the evening service and sermon, the treasurer of the Church Council Dimitrije Jovic brought straw into the church, and parishioners Damjan Gligorević and Sasa Krsmanovic yule logs. When they were entering the church with the song "Oh Yule Log, Oh Yule Log ", the children were throwing nuts and wheat .

   After the blessing of yule logs, parishioners were reverently approaching and kissing the holy gospel, icon and cross. Fr. Petar greeted everyone with the words "Peace of God, Christ is Born". Vice President of the Church Council, Marko Mijac, handed to all parishioners free church wall calendar in the church, and on behalf of Serbian Sisters Protinitza Gordana Petrovic presented Christmas gifts to all children at the church hall.

   Beginning of joyous Christian Holiday was marked by the presentation and burning of Yule Log and straw, on the fire already prepared on parking lot. Large number of parishioners attended the burning of the Yule Log.

   After evening prayer and burning of the Yule Log, Fr.Petar urged all those present to come to church hall, for free Dinner and traditional "Šumadijski Tea".

   Overall impression was that the parish in Cincinnati progresses, both spiritually and materially.

   One of the parishioners in the church hall told me: “This celebration means a lot to me, I've had it since my childhood; my parents raised me this way that I am really looking forward to this holiday as to Easter.”

   Then let us rejoice: PEACE OF GOD! CHRIST IS BORN!

Бадње Вече обележено у Синсинатију, Охајо

   У суботу јануара 6, 2014. године су се парохијани и пријатељи цркве светога Ђорђа у Симсинатију окупили око своје цркве да на традиционални начин прославе Бадње Вече и припреме за дочек Христовог Рођења, иако су многе цркве отказале богослужења због велике хладноће и лошег времена.

   Вечeрња слжба коју је служио протојереј Петар Петровић почела је у 6:30 часова увече, чиме је свечано најављен долазак Божића. За време вечерње службе свештенику су помагали у Олтару Адам Меадор, Вељко Уверић,Томас Фрејзер, Марко Петровић и браћа Мајкл и Метју Томпсон.

   У препуном храму сте могли приметити србе, румуне, бугаре, русе и вернике других националности, па се прота Петар потрудио да брошуре о распореду богослужења сви присутни добију на своме језику, генерално на енглеском,српском, румунском и бугарском, а на крају вечерње службе прота Петар је све присутне кратко поздравио на више страних језика што је изазвало велико задовољство свих присутних.

   После вечерње службе и проповеди, благајник црквеног одбора Димитрије Јовић је унео у цркву сламу, а парохијани Дамјан Глигоревић и Саша Крсмановић Бадњаке.Приликом уласка у цркву уз песму "Ој Бадњаче Бадњаче", деца су Бадњак и сламу дочекала бацајући орахе и пшеницу.

   После освећења Бадњака, парохијани су побожно прилазили и целивали свето јеванђеље, икону и крст а свештеник је свакога поздравио са речима Мир Божји Христос се Роди. Подпреседник црквеног одбора Марко Мијаћ је свим парохијанима поделио бесплатно црквени зидни календар у цркви, а протиница Гордана је у црквеној сали у име Кола Српских Сестара свој присутној деци поделила Божићне поклоне.

   Почетак најрадоснијег хришћанског празника, обележен је изношењем и паљењем Бадњака и сламе, на већ припремљеној ватри у црквеној порти. Паљењу Бадњака присуствовао је велики број верника.

   После вечерње молитве и паљења Бадњака прота Петар је позвао све присутне у црквену салу на послужење, бесплатну посну вечеру и традиционални Шумадијски Чај.

   Могло се је приметити да парохија у Синсинатију напредује, како духовно, тако и материјално.

   Један од парохијана је у црквеној сали рекао: Мени ово окупљање значи много, ја то носим још из детињства, родитељи су ме тако васпитали, да се том празнику стварно радујем као и Васкрсу.

   Па онда нека нам тако и буде. МИР БОЖЈИ! ХРИСТОС СЕ РОДИ!

   During the calendar year of 2013, we have witnessed a growth in our parish. This growth is not only measurable numerically, with quantitative figures, but also qualitatively, observable by the work of new, dedicated Stewards within the parish. We welcome all of our new families to our parish and we thank God for bringing in helpers to further the spread of His Word. We look back on 2013 at the spiritual and financial growth at St. George and we look forward to 2014 with the hope that the newly elected Parish Council will continue and surpass the progress of 2013. May God guide each and every one of us now and throughout this upcoming year. May He bring us closer to one another and strengthen us as we labor to ultimately build a new Church building, suitable for celebrating the Divine Liturgy and the Eucharist! Свети Ђорђе Српска православна црква у Синсинатију, Охајо прославила је монументални дан 19. фебруара 2017. пошто је Његово Преосвештенство Епископ Источно Амерички Господин Иринеј, недавно именовани епископ епархије Источне Америке, посетио ову парохију посебним поводом. Владика Иринеј је не само дошао да упознам народ из своје нове епархије и да служи архијерејску Литургију, већ да увелича и излије свој благослов и ода признање Оцу Петру Петровићу, који је служио као свештеник више од 40 година (43 да будемо прецизнији), са својом супругом Протоницом Горданом упоредо! Отац Петар је прихватио свој крст да следи Христа служећи као свештеник пре много година у Србији.

"Ако неко жели да иде за мном, нека се одрекне себе и узме крст свој и иде за мном." (Марко 8:34). Вредно је да за тренутак застанемо и размислимо о речима изговореним од Христа и како сваки хришћанин одлучује дали ће послушати (или не послушати) свог Господа који га позива. На пример, неки у потпуности негирају позив и постају уништени од овог света (нпр. Прича о сејачу). Други, као што су монашке заједнице, посвете цео живот Христу, што може изгледати онима који живе ван Цркве као нешто "екстремно". Многи од нас се нађу негде у средини на нашем путовању са крстом, са сопственим искушењима, биткама, неуспесима и победама на путу. Наше заједнице се воде на локалном нивоу од стране свештеника, који је одговоран за своје парохијане пред Богом који упућује на Мистерију цркве. То су наши парохијски свештеници који носе ову велику одговорност јер су "позвани" да постану чланови свештенства и да буду лидери.

Припрема за прву Кнонску посету нашега Владике је почела пре више од два месеца, и много посла је урађено да би његова посета остала незаборавна. Његово Преосвештенство Епископ Иринеј је стигао 18. фебруара, а дочекао га јеотац Петар и одвео на специјалну вечеру у центру Синсинатија. У недељу ујутро, Отац Петар је поздравио ЊеговоПреосвештенство испред црквених врата са речима, "Нека буде благословен који долази у име Господње!", заједно са сином, Протојерејом Оцем Драганом Петровић свештеником српске православне цркве Светог Николе у Индијанаполису, заједно са Хором цркве светога Николе, Протојерејом Оцем Данијел Маршал, Руске цркве Светог Ђорђа у Синсинатију, и професором теологије ђаконом Др. Јованом Аничићем из Чикага, којису учествовали на светој архијерејској Литургији. Црква и паркинг су били крцати са парохијанима и гостима

Пре почетка архијерејске Литургије , напредлог оца Петра, владика Иринеј је произвео у чин Чтеца Адама Меадор и Вељка Уверић. Владика Иринеј је свима присутнима објаснио које су дужности Чтеца у Цркви и значај те позиције. Њих двојица су прозведени у овајчин благословом Владике и пострижењем косе, а узречи, "Аксиос!" (Што значи "достојан"). Адам и Вељко су се потом придружили у олтару унуцима оца Петра, Петру, Марку , и Јовану који су такође помагали током свете Литургије..

За време малога входа на светој Литургији, владика Иринеј је унапредио оца Петра у чин Протојереја-ставрофора уз речи "Аксиос" за његов труд и посвећеност Цркви и одликовао га је напрсним крстом. Ово моћно оружје је највећа част која се додељује свештенику у СПЦ а владика Иринеј се је обратио народу и оцу Петру следећим речима, "Знамо за ваших много посвећених година служења у цркви, 43 специфично, а знамо и да су оне биле богате године, године које су испуњене радом, залагањем, и љубављу према Христовој Светој Цркви. Нека и даље наставите да пружате Цркви оно што је вама Бог дао. Наставите да узрастате у пуноћи Цркве Христове и као што ви узрастате, да и ова парохија расте са вама, јер ово признање се даје не само вама, него сваком појединцу који стоји овде заједно, јер сте ви њихов духовни отац. Без вас, они не би могли да напредују у Христу. Нека вас Господ Бог благослови и чува! Живели, на Многаја, и блага љета! "

После читања Светог Јеванђеља, Владика Иринеј је изговорио инспиративну и незаборавну проповед о примени Христове љубави према другима и дефиницији греха, коју је сажео као "одсуство љубави". Његова размишљања у вези разлике између греха и преступа су такође размишљање свих присутних. Владика Иринеј је наизменично проповедао на енглеском и српском језику, чиме је одушевио све парохијана цркве Светог Ђорђа и оне који су били у посети. Након завршетка Свете Литургије, сви присутни су се упутили према црквеној сали да уживају у дивном банкету и прослави тако специјалног дана.

Упркос многим обавезама, владици Иринеју није било тешко да на путу према аеродрому сврати у посету оболелом Грегу Миладинов, кога познаје још из својих студенских дана.

Богдан Благојевић породица, Милана Шајковић породица, Дамјан Глигоревић породица, Тома Веселиновић породица и Голубан Марјановић породица су донирали прасад и јагњад за празник, и многе чланице КСС, као и друге сестре, које су донеле колаче. Током банкета, Милован Бељин и његова ћерка Ана су уз звуке гитаре отпевали неколико песама, стварајући веселу атмосферу.
