THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

(Forty days after Pascha)

After His glorious Resurrection, our Lord Jesus Christ often appeared to His apostles and taught them about the Kingdom of God.

Not all of these teachings were written down in the Holy Scripture. Some of them were written down by the apostles in the Divine Liturgy, and some of them, they taught to the new bishops by word of mouth. These things are all called “Sacred Tradition.”

On the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Jesus Christ appeared to the apostles for the last time. Together they walked on the top of the Mount of Olives. Our dear Saviour was giving His followers His final instructions and strengthening them. Jesus told the disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there until they received the special gift of the Holy Spirit which was going to descend on His Holy Orthodox Church. Our Saviour said, “John baptized you with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

The Lord then told His apostles that He was going to return to Heaven to prepare a place for the faithful. He promised to return at the end of time and gather all His true followers into the Heavenly Kingdom, where they will live with Him forever.

The Saviour then told His apostles to go throughout the whole world, teaching people about Him and baptizing them into His Holy Church, “in the name of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit.”

After this, our Saviour was caught up into heaven. When the apostles saw this, they trembled with fear and joy. They went back to Jerusalem, glorifying God, and waited there for the descent of the Holy Spirit.

ВАЗНЕСЕЊЕ ГОСПОДЊЕ СПАСОВДАН

                                                                                                          (Четрдесет дана након Пасхе)

Након Његовог славног Васкрсења, наш Господ Исус Христ често се појављивао пред својим апостолима и подучавао их о Царству Божјем.

Нису сва та учења записана у Светом Писму. Неке од њих апостоли су записали у Светој Литургији, а неке су новим епископима предавали усменим путем. Све се то назива "Свето Предање."

Четрдесети дан након Његовог Васкрсења, Исус Христос се појавио последњи пут пред апостолима. Заједно су шетали врхом Маслинске Горе. Наш драги Спаситељ дао је Својим следбеницима Своје последње инструкције и ојачао их. Исус је рекао ученицима да не напуштају Јерусалим, већ да чекају тамо док не добију посебан дар Светога Духа који ће се спустити на његову Свету Православну Цркву. Наш Спаситељ је рекао: "Јован вас је крстио водом, али за неколико дана бићете крштени Светим Духом."

Господ је тада рекао својим апостолима да ће се вратити на Небо да припреми место за вернике. Обећао је да ће се вратити на крају времена и окупити све своје истинске следбенике у Небеско Царство, где ће живети с њим заувек.

Спаситељ је тада рекао својим апостолима да иду по целом свету, учећи људе о Њему и крштавајући их у своју Свету Цркву, "у име Оца и Сина и Духа Светога".

Након тога наш Спаситељ се је вазнео  на небо. Када су то апостоли видели, дрхтали су од страха и радости. Вратили су се у Јерусалим славећи Бога и тамо чекали силазак Светога Духа.
